SLIDELL, La. — Detectives with the Slidell Police Department say they have arrested a Slidell High School student Monday for allegedly spreading a rumor on social media about a planned shooting at the school.
The unnamed student was charged with Terrorizing, following an investigation into a Snapchat post that was posted and circulated on social media.
They say the student made up a rumor that a school shooting was going to take place by “this kid” in the social media post. That post spread across the internet and made its way to the police department.
“Slidell Police take all school threats, whether rumor or not, very seriously. This case was investigated by detectives from both Slidell Police and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office,” said the Slidell Police Department in an update on social media.
“Law enforcement officials encourage students and parents to take the proper steps when reporting threats, rumors or suspicious behavior…which are your School Resource Officer, a school official, or filing a report with your local law enforcement agency.”
