Search for 'armed and dangerous' St. Roch homicide suspect ends in out-of-state arrest

31-year-old Erick Garrison is being held in Texas as a fugitive.
The New Orleans Police Department is looking for a murder suspect connected with a deadly shooting on St. Roch Avenue on Aug. 3. His name is Erick Garrison.

NEW ORLEANS — A day after asking for the public's help in locating a murder suspect considered "armed and dangerous," the New Orleans Police Department announced on Friday the arrest of 31-year-old Erick Garrison in Dallas.

Police suspect Garrison as the perpetrator in a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 32-year-old Brandon Hayward in the 3100 block off St. Roch Avenue on Aug. 3.

On Thursday, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Garrison on one count of second-degree murder.

According to police, the capture was a collaborative effort conducted by the NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad with U.S. Marshals Task Forces in New Orleans and Dallas.

Garrison is currently being held in Texas as a fugitive.
