JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A former Jefferson Parish teacher's assistant was convicted on Wednesday after he tried to pay a student $80 for sex.
A jury found Lance Johnson, 42, guilty of indecent behavior with a juvenile and soliciting for prostitution of a juvenile.
According to Nola.com, the student was 14 years old. Johnson was arrested in October 2022 on "accusations that he made numerous sexual advances toward a student at Hazel Park/Hilda Knoff Elementary School in River Ridge starting in June of that year," our partners reported.
Investigators said Johnson made numerous sexual advances to the victim while at the school, and even drove to the victim's home offering $80 for sex.
The student told another teacher about the incident and the parent was notified. He was then reported to the Jefferson Parish Public Schools System and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
According to our partners, Johnson's behavior was seen on surveillance video. His cellphone records also show his location during the encounters.
Johnson will be sentenced on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
