Police search ends with arrest of man who fled from officers with an unrestrained infant

An officer started to chase the suspect but backed off for the safety of the infant.

SLIDELL, La. — The Slidell Police Department's search for a man who fled from officers on Thursday with an unrestrained infant in the front seat of his car ended with an arrest.

Late last night, 26-year-old Emanuel Henry came to the Slidell Police Department to turn himself in. Henry was booked into the Slidell City Jail with:

  • 2 counts of Domestic Abuse Battery with Child endangerment
  • Aggravated Flight from an Officer
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • Reckless Operation
  • Expired License Plate
  • Improperly Restrained Child
  • Driving Under Suspension

On Thursday, an officer saw Henry speeding on Old Spanish Trail with the infant unrestrained in the front seat. Police say that the officer was able to catch up to Henry at the foot of the Twin Spans and pull him over.

According to Slidell PD, Henry was initially cooperative, but when the officer found out that he had warrants for his arrest, he asked him to step out of the vehicle. 

The officer asked Henry multiple times to get out of the car and not to take off on him, but Henry decided to speed off.

The officer started to chase him but then backed off for the infant's safety. 

Henry was wanted for the following charges in addition to the new charges for fleeing:

  • Domestic Abuse Battery 
  • Child endangerment
  • Aggravated Flight from an Officer
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  •  Reckless Operation
  •  Expired License Plate
  • Improperly Restrained Child
  •  Driving Under Suspension
