Police chase ends in crash – JPSO vehicle hit

The pursuit ended near the corner of Veterans Boulevard and Transcontinental Drive in Metairie, La.

METAIRIE, La. — A police chase ended in a crash involving Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office units on Monday.

The pursuit ended near the corner of Quincy Street and Transcontinental Drive in Metairie, La.

According to the JPSO, the pursuit began after the driver allegedly refused to pull over during a traffic stop after being suspected in connection with an earlier investigation near the intersection of Independence and El Dorado streets.

WWL Louisiana was on the scene where the driver allegedly crashed into two JPSO vehicles as well as a vehicle not involved in the incident.

Once stopped, JPSO claims the suspect refused to exit the vehicle forcing deputies to break the driver's side window to remove him after incapacitating him with an electrical weapon.

According to WWL photojournalist Troy Toups, animal control took three dogs, including a puppy, from the suspect's vehicle.

The suspect could be heard saying "I'm not a criminal" while being taken away in an ambulance.

The civilian driver was taken to the hospital for treatment as was a JPSO deputy also injured. The deputy is listed in stable condition.

Upon his release from the hospital, the suspect faces several charges including aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated flight, and resisting an officer.
