NEW ORLEANS — There was a multi-agency police chase that ended in the capture and arrest of a subject at the intersection of Polk Street and Veterans Boulevard in New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon.
Law enforcement personnel from the New Orleans Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, FBI and the Orleans Levee District Police Department were on the scene.
The NOPD first confirmed the incident, saying a chase ensued before the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.
Shortly after 4 p.m., the LSP confirmed Troop NOLA's involvement in the pursuit of a 2021 Dodge Charger after it was observed allegedly driving recklessly near Calliope and Carondelet streets.
The LSP said that when troopers attempted to stop the car, the vehicle fled before eventually ending when the Charger crashed into two civilian vehicles. The car was reportedly stolen and one of the civilian drivers was injured during the accident. Police said weapons and drugs were found in the car.
A later report posted to LSP social media, identified the suspects as 24-year-old driver Cameron Jones and 22-year-old passenger Anthony Jackson.
Two handguns were said to be found in the stolen vehicle, one of which was illegally modified to a fully automatic. Marijuana was also found.
Both Jones and Jackson were arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Central lockup on the following charges:
Cameron Jones
• Possession of Stolen Vehicle
• Aggravated flight from an officer
• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
• Possession of a firearm by someone convicted of Domestic Violence
• Illegal possession of a modified handgun
• Battery on a Police Officer
• other traffic and criminal-related charges
Anthony Jackson
• Resisting arrest
• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
• Possession of Marijuana
