NEW ORLEANS — Police arrested a suspect they say confessed to a French Quarter shooting that left one man injured on Sunday morning.
According to NOPD officials, 25-year-old Kwane Brown was arrested as the prime suspect in the attack on a 34-year-old man on Decatur Street.
Officials said around 6:45 a.m. Sunday, the man was sitting in a car in the 100 block of Decatur Street when Brown apparently walked up to him and shot him multiple times.
While wounded, the man was able to drive to the 800 block of Iberville Street where you found help and was taken to the hospital by EMS for treatment, initial police reports said. As of Sunday afternoon, he was listed in stable condition.
A short time after the shooting, police said an NOPD sergeant identified and stopped Brown in 100 block of Convention Center Boulevard, where Louisiana State Troopers found a Glock 9mm handgun with an extended magazine on him during a search.
Brown was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder. During an interview with NOPD detectives, Brown confessed to the shooting, as well as to other violent crimes he said he committed yesterday in Georgia and Alabama, according to NOPD officials.
Brown is believed to be from Georgia. The NOPD is contacting agencies in those states to assist with their investigation into the additional crimes, officials said.
