ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A man is dead after being hit by a commercial truck in Covington on Wednesday, according to Louisiana State Police.

The crash claimed the life of 38-year-old Jonathan H. Janise of Denham Springs. State police said the accident happened at 2:30 a.m. on US Hwy 190 near Park Place Drive in St. Tammany Parish.

Troopers said Janise walked into the eastbound lanes from the median. At the same time, a 2014 Peterbilt 389 was also headed east.

"For reasons still under investigation, the Peterbilt struck Janise in the center lane," a release said.

Janise suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt truck was wearing a seatbelt and was injured.

Troopers said impairment was not suspected from the truck driver who provided a breath sample of 0.000g%.
