NOPD: 1 dead, 1 wounded in two shootings in two hours

Detectives on the scene and gathering evidence to determine a suspect and motive.

NEW ORLEANS — A juvenile with a gunshot wound is dropped off at the hospital, but later dies and a man is shot on Louisiana Avenue in two shootings that happened just two hours apart.

According to an NOPD report, at about 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, a car arrives at a local hospital and drops off a teenager with a gunshot wound. Police say the vehicle then fled the scene. The teen later died at the hospital. Investigators have now classified the incident as a homicide, and are working to determine where the shooting took place.

Then, a little over two hours later at about 4:38 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired at the intersection of Louisiana and South Claiborne Avenues. When responding officers arrived, they found a male with a gunshot wound.

Police say the shooting stemmed from an attempted armed robbery.

“Through investigation, NOPD Second District detectives determined that this incident originated as an attempted armed robbery committed by an unknown male perpetrator,” an NOPD report says. “During the commission of this incident, the perpetrator allegedly fired gunshots that struck the victim in the leg. The perpetrator then fled the scene.”
