Attempted murder suspect surrenders after standoff in Central City

Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Brandon Laurant.

NEW ORLEANS — A wanted suspect surrendered to New Orleans Police after a SWAT Roll in Central City on Thursday.

Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Brandon Laurant. Laurant barricaded himself inside a home in the 1800 block of Washington Avenue after the NOPD and U.S. Marshals Task Force tried to serve an arrest warrant for an attempted murder in Jefferson Parish.

According to police, two other people were inside the home with Laurant during this incident. "At this time, the two have not been charged with any crimes," NOPD said in a release.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

Laurant was arrested and will be booked on the following:

  • Attempted murder 
  • Flight from an officer, 
  • Aggravated criminal damage to property and theft
  • Felony drug and weapons violations
