NOPD Identifies driver, passenger in illegal car stunt show crash

Police are also searching for three people they believe fired the shots after the crash.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department has identified the driver and passenger in an illegal car stunt show crash that led to a shooting.

NOPD worked with the Jersey Village (Texas) Police Department to identify Malik Wallace as the driver of the Corvette in the incident and Diana Perez as the passenger in the vehicle.

Wallace crashed the stolen Chevrolet Corvette on February 11 around 2 a.m. during a stunt show. After crashing, Wallace and Perz fled the scene. Police later found the Corvette abandoned at the intersection of Urquhart and Music Street.

A witness told WWL Louisiana that after the driver lost control of the vehicle, he hit bystanders and cars. A video shared on Instagram showed a man bleeding and a crowd telling the driver of the red car to 'put it in the park' and 'you can't go anywhere.'

Then, the driver takes off on St. Roch Avenue. When that happens, you hear around 20 gunshots go off within seconds.

A 29-year-old man was struck in his shoulder during the incident. According to the NOPD, the man drove himself to the hospital.

It's unclear if there were other injuries from the crash and shooting.

NOPD released these photos of the suspects.
