NEW ORLEANS — One man is in the hospital after an NOPD officer shot him during an Uptown burglary.
According to law enforcement, it’s the latest in a string of burglaries in the area.
“It’s alarming,” Uptown Resident Linda Conner said.
After the first nine homes were burglarized in Uptown, the neighbors on State Street started doing everything right.
“We were talking about how we have to keep our speed dial on for our neighborhood patrol,” One neighbor said.
Alarms and Nest Cams weren’t enough. Early Thursday morning, a home on Perrier and State became the tenth victim.
“The ironic thing about this neighbor is she is the neighborhood watchdog. She started a text chain for all of us,” Conner said.
Officers arrived around 5:30 and chased the suspect down the block, shooting him and taking him to a nearby hospital.
NOPD Captain Gwen Nolan says the suspect matches the description of a suspect involved in some of the other area burglaries.
“He’s got the same clothes on, and you can see a portion of his face that matches the face of the person that we found on the porch this morning,” NOPD Captain Nolan said.

All ten burglaries have one thing in common. Whoever is breaking in is after guns.
“She had her team prepared to saturate the area,” NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said.
NOPD is still investigating the incident, but neighbors say they feel safer knowing a suspect is in custody.
“We are positive that we can move forward,” Conner said.
