16-year-old student shot outside Booker T Washington High, NOPD investigating

The 16-year-old victim was shot in the leg, according to police.

NEW ORLEANS — A 16-year-old student was shot at Booker T Washington High School Tuesday afternoon, according to New Orleans Police.

NOPD confirmed they are investigating a shooting in the 1200 block of S. Roman Street.

When WWL-TV arrived on the scene, reporter Eleanor Tabone witnessed someone being wheeled out of the school on a stretcher and a heavy police presence outside the school.

Police say the shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. and identified the victim as a 16-year-old boy. NOPD says he was shot in the leg.

The shooting happened outside of the school during dismissal.

The school was placed on lockdown, which has since been lifted.
