NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans neighborhood turned into a war zone Saturday, when several people started shooting at each other, firing off more than 70 rounds.
Neighbors say three cars full of people were involved in the shootout.
"I was standing on the side of my car and I saw two cars pull up," one neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said. "I wasn't sure if it was fireworks going off or what was happening, but I know I heard a lot of shots."
It all happened in the 2700 block of Amazon Street, just off General De Gaulle Drive.
Surveillance cameras captured the moment a black, four-door pickup truck pulled up and several people got out and started shooting. You can see one of the shooters run for cover as someone off-camera returns fire. Bullets keep flying until he comes back, dives into the truck bed, and they all peel out.
New Orleans police say that no one was wounded in the shooting. An incredible statement when you see how many bullets were fired and how much damage they did in the neighborhood.
So far, details are scarce on what led to the shootout. New Orleans police haven't named any suspects or announced any arrests, but witnesses tell us there may have been 10 shooters involved.
"Seems like we got too much violence going on right now in the community," one neighbor said. "We need a little bit more uplifting and bring it together. Needs to be something done about all of the violence and just the lack of help in the community. Feel like we just need safer places for our children and our families to be.”
