1 dead, 1 wounded in 2 separate shootings in New Orleans, NOPD reports

NOPD says they are investigating a shooting and a homicide that happened overnight.

NEW ORLEANS — The NOPD is investigating two overnight shootings, one shooting was fatal the police department reports.

The first shooting happened Thursday shortly after 10:00 p.m. in the 2300 block of St. Anthony Street.

Initial reports show an adult male gunshot wound victim was transported to the hospital by EMS.

The second shooting is being investigated as a homicide. It happened in the 2200 block of New Orleans Street.

"At about 12:17 a.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim on the scene. The victim was subsequently declared deceased on the scene. A subject was detained for questioning in this investigation," said the NOPD report.

As the investigation progressed, the NOPD's Homicide Section detectives determined the person detained for questioning – identified as Erling Antunez – to be the perpetrator of the shooting. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Antunez on one count of second-degree murder and one count of illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Antunez was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
