NOPD investigates a hit and run in Central City that killed a pedestrian

Initial information from NOPD shows one adult victim who was declared dead on the scene by EMS.

CENTRAL CITY, La. — The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that happened Friday night in Central City.

Investigators say it happened at about 10:39 p.m. at the intersection of South Claiborne Ave and Thalia Street.

Police say the victim was walking at the location when an unknown vehicle struck him and fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death and identify the victim upon notification of the family.

At this time investigators do not have information about the vehicle involved and are trying to determine how and why the accident occurred.
