NOPD deploys the SWAT team in Central City

Police said the standoff came to an end Tuesday afternoon as the suspect, who has not yet been identified, surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department has deployed the SWAT team after a man barricaded himself inside a home in the 2800 block of S. Johnson Street as police were serving him with a warrant.

Police said the standoff came to an end Tuesday afternoon as the suspect, who has not yet been identified, surrendered to police and was taken into custody. 

Police began the deployment at about 7:39 a.m. The NOPD said the man is an attempted murder suspect who barricaded himself inside as officers were serving the warrant.

The situation caused major traffic delays in the area near Derbigny Street and Washington Avenue as police blocked off the area to traffic.
