NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans police officer is under investigation after his body-worn camera allegedly caught him smoking illegal drugs.
As The Times-Picayune reports, NOPD officer Maurice Bailey, 27, is on “administrative reassignment” pending a Public Integrity Bureau into a December 12 misconduct complaint alleging Bailey smoked drugs while on duty and it was caught on his body camera.
The NOPD declined to reveal details about the investigation citing that the department is legally exempt from disclosure while the PIB investigation is ongoing.
According to Bailey’s resume, he attended Archbishop Rummel High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science at Southern Louisiana University in 2020 before joining the NOPD in 2021 fresh out of the NOPD police academy and serving the 7th District in New Orleans East.
This is not the first time Bailey has been in trouble with his department.
Bailey has received several write-ups in his short time on the force according to Civil Service Department records, including three body camera policy violations, and a one-day suspension for failing to file a vehicle crash report on time.
