NOPD: Bystanders hold down attempted rape suspect until police arrive near Lafitte Greenway

According to police, the victim met Stacy Johnson and walked with him to the Lafitte Greenway around 3:30 a.m.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department says they have arrested a man in connection with an attempted second-degree rape reported early Thursday morning.

According to police, the victim met Stacy Johnson on Canal Street and walked with him to the Lafitte Greenway around 3:30 a.m.  

The victim told police that Johnson tried to rape her when they got to the intersection of North Roman Street.

"Two bystanders in the area heard her screams and came to her aid, holding the suspect down until police arrived," NOPD said.

The victim and Johnson were both treated for minor injuries.  

Johnson was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on charges of attempted second-degree rape.
