6 injured, 2 killed in 5 separate New Orleans shootings

New Orleans police are investigating several shootings just before Christmas Day including one fatal and one in the French Quarter where three people were injured.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating several shootings less than a day before Christmas, including one in the French Quarter where three people were injured.

That shooting in the French Quarter happened around 2:09 a.m. Christmas Eve at the corner of Toulouse and Dauphine streets.

Investigators say two of the three men were shot in the leg and the third man was shot in the back following an "altercation" between the men and the suspect.

Another shooting happened just after 9:00 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Reverend John Raphael Way in Central City. An NOPD report says a man was shot there but police did not provide any details on his condition.

Before that shooting, two people were shot in the Seventh Ward, including a juvenile.  That shooting happened in the 1900 block of N. Dorgenois Street just before 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say the victim was sitting inside a car when unknown suspects started shooting. A bullet hit the victim in the neck and he was transported to the hospital by EMS.

Later, a man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound. Police believe he was also shot at the location in the same shooting incident.

About 30 minutes before that, there was a separate fatal shooting in Algiers.

At about 4:13 p.m., a 43-year-old man – later identified as Lacory Johnson – was fatally shot in the 6400 block of Isadore Street.

Police say the man ran into a nearby store where he collapsed. He was taken to the hospital by EMS but later died from his injury.

Another shooting happened around 3:30 p.m at Canal and Exchange Place. Police say one woman was killed.

“Within the last 24 hours six individuals were victims of senseless acts of violence that occurred in different areas of our city," said NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and all those affected. During the holiday season, cities across the country experience an unfortunate uptick in crime. Our dedicated detectives are aggressively investigating the incidents, gathering information to identify and apprehend those responsible. At this time, the incidents do not seem to be related."

All of these shootings are under investigation.
