Girl who was 3 when her parents were killed testifies in murder trial

Augustine is charged with two counts of second-degree murder for allegedly killing Gregory Heisser and Darnisha Desilva in a Little Woods home back in 2018.

NEW ORLEANS — Thursday, a young girl recounted the day her parents were killed as the man accused of killing them was sitting a few feet away.

Thursday was day two of testimony for Kenneth Augustine's double murder trial. Augustine is charged with two counts of second-degree murder for allegedly killing Gregory Heisser and Darnisha Desilva in a Little Woods home back in 2018.

Heisser was holding one of the couple's children when he was shot and another child was nearby in the home.

The couple's now nine-year-old daughter was only three at the time of the fatal shooting.

Thursday the prosecution called her to the stand. The little girl didn't know some things, but identified Augustine and said he brought her into her home. She said she remembers seeing blood in the house and her father on the ground. The little girl also said she remembers feeling scared when he came inside the home.

After the prosecution rested their case, the defense called only one witness to the stand – Augustine's twin sister.

Kenisha Augustine said she was with her brother on the day of the shooting. At first, she said her brother was not in the car when they drove to the home where the shooting took place, but then minutes later said Kenneth Augustine got to the home with her.

She said she was maced when she got to the home and didn't see or hear anything, except for people screaming her brother's name. The prosecution asked Kenisha Augustine if she saw blood, or heard gunshots and people screaming and she said no.

Closing arguments begin Friday morning.
