NEW ORLEANS — A man was shot and killed on Sunday evening in New Orleans, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The shooting caused multiple restaurants and bars in the area to close early, Nola.com reported.
NOPD said the shooting happened around 6:39 p.m. in the 700 block of Tchoupitoulas Street in the 8th District.
According to Nola.com, the shooting was believed to be targeted "outside the Renaissance Hotel." Officers said a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times.
"Investigators say the victim was outside when he was approached by an unknown subject who shot him multiple times and then fled," NOPD said in a release.
Officers said the man was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS. Detectives are in the process of gathering information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident as well as a motive.
Businesses in the area including, Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar and Legacy Craft Kitchen Tavern closed following the shooting, our partners reported.
