NOPD investigating two separate homicides on Tuesday

Officers said they responded to a call around 10:24 a.m. and upon arrival found a man dead on the scene.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating its second homicide of the day.

The first happened Tuesday morning when a man was found dead in the 1900 block of N. Dorgenois near the intersection with Allen Street.

Officers said they responded to a call around 10:24 a.m. and, upon arrival, found the unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk. NOPD said it is investigating the fatality as a homicide.

No further information is available at this time.

The second homicide happened around 3:20 p.m. in the Lower Ninth Ward. It comes one day after the Metropolitan Crime Commission reported homicides in the city were down 31% versus 2023.

Police say the victim died at the hospital after being shot at least once near the 1800 block of Lizardi Street.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim's identity and cause of death once the family is notified and an autopsy is completed.
