NOPD: Man arrested for animal cruelty

32-year-old David Jackson was booked on charges of felonious animal cruelty.

NEW ORLEANS — A man was arrested for animal cruelty during an unrelated investigation, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Detectives say they were executing an unrelated search warrant in the 7800 block of Sail Street when they found an "emaciated male dog" in the backyard of the home.

"The dog appeared severely malnourished, and there was no dog food on the property," NOPD said in a release. "Also, the dog did not have access to fresh water and relied on runoff from a nearby gutter drain to survive."

When detectives continued searching the home, they found a locked kennel in direct sunlight containing two empty bowls. Inside that kennel, they found skeletal remains of a dog.

LASPCA agents were called to the scene, and they determined that the deceased dog was likely a puppy. LASPCA took custody of the surviving dog.

32-year-old David Jackson was booked on charges of felonious animal cruelty.

Anyone with information regarding this case of animal cruelty is asked to call Seventh District Detectives at 504-658-6070 or Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111.
