Two people were killed and four others were injured in five shootings in New Orleans in a nine-hour span from Friday night until very early Saturday morning.
In the first incident, a 17-year-old girl was found shot to death in the 4300 block of North Villere. Police said she suffered gunshot wounds to the body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An hour later, a man was found shot to death in the 7000 block of Salem Drive.
Around 10:30 p.m., two men arrived at the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said that incident occurred in the 2500 block of Touro Street. About 20 minutes later, a man arrived at the hospital after being shot near the intersection of Ursuline and North Prieur. There was no immediate word on the conditions of the victims in those two incidents.
And, around 4:10 a.m., a man was discovered with a gunshot wound to the boy at the intersection of South Roman and First Street.
The shootings coincidentally began a few hours after NOPD Superintendent Michelle Woodfork said that violent crime overall is down about 17 percent through the first half of 2023.
