NOPD investigating homicide in Plum Orchard

The victim was declared deceased on the scene.

NEW ORLEANS — UPDATE: On Nov. 8, the New Orleans Police Department arrested Diamond Ebbs, 18, in connection with the homicide investigation. On Oct. 31, 19-year-old Mekhai Pierce was arrested and is currently being held at Orleans Justice Center.

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a homicide in the Plum Orchard neighborhood.

Police said they were conducting a wellness check in the 4700 block of Bonita Drive when they found a man with a gunshot wound. EMS declared the victim dead at the scene.

"The incident was initially considered to be an unclassified death," NOPD said. Investigators later re-classified the incident as a homicide.

No other information is available at this time.
