Loyola student escapes carjacking attempt just off Uptown campus

Police said that the victim was exiting a school parking lot around when a vehicle pulled in front of her and a male suspect armed with a gun got out and approached

NEW ORLEANS — A Loyola student was able to safely get away from an attempted armed carjacking very early Monday morning in front of the school’s campus on St. Charles Avenue, officials with the school confirmed.

Police said that the victim was exiting the Broadway campus Pine Street Lot around 2 a.m. when a white Kia Soul containing two males pulled in front of her and the passenger armed with a gun got out and approached.

Police said the woman drove over the curb and around the suspect’s car and fled the scene. She was met by campus police after the incident and later met with the NOPD to give details of the incident, including a description of the armed suspect.

The student said the person who approached her appeared to be a man in his early- to mid-20s, wearing a grey hoodie and brandishing a dark-colored handgun.

While the suspected vehicle was located in a nearby neighborhood, the suspects have not been located.

A school spokesperson said that the victim is being supported by campus services. Students are advised to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
