NEW ORLEANS — A woman has been arrested in connection with the theft of expensive bonsai trees and other plants from two New Orleans-area garden shops.
As our partners at The Times-Picayune report, police say Erica Furguson-Murphy, 40, is accused of burglarizing Harold's Indoor Outdoor Plants in the Bywater neighborhood on Nov. 28 and Perino's Home and Garden Center in Metairie on Dec. 9, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The thefts included a Lakeview Jasmine and a large river birch bonsai, Nola.com reported.
Detectives from the NOPD and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office collaborated in the investigation, which revealed similar circumstances in both incidents. Furguson-Murphy will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of simple burglary of a business. If convicted, she could face up to 12 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000.
