NEW ORLEANS — A resident's home security cameras caught the moment three people were shot and killed in Mid-City recently.
The neighbor whose cameras caught the video says he never knew he’d be taking shelter from gunfire in his own home. For his safety, he asked that we protect his identity.
“I jumped off the couch and crawled down the hall as fast as I could.”
The video shows a black truck pull up and two people hop out on Rendon Street. You can see one run, and the other duck and hide by a car. Another person comes into the frame and then it becomes graphic. You see two shooters run around the corner and open fire. Two people were killed.
In the far right corner of the video, there are more flashes, more gunshots. Then, you see one of the shooters also fall behind the car. Neighbors tell us he also died in the hail of gunfire.
“The crazy part is, I have heard a lot of gunshots but there were so many of them I thought it was fireworks.”
The neighbor says that after the shooting he ran outside and found three victims. As a medical professional, he says he did all he could to try to save the victims, but it was far too late.
“I run back out with a flashlight and I start trying to triage these guys, trying to figure out if any of these guys could be saved.”
According to the coroner, the victims included two men, a 27 and 23-year-old and a 15-year-old boy.
At least three homes have bullet holes, and more than 70 bullet casings were found along the block, according to City Councilmember Joe Giarrusso.
The neighbor we spoke to says his house was hit by nine bullets, five of which pierced the walls.
“You know this stuff can happen in New Orleans, but I didn’t think I would be in the middle of it like this.”
New Orleans police said they can't speculate as to the motive adding, "The NOPD understands residents' concerns and are actively working to identify, locate and arrest those responsible for this incident."
