Mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son set to appear in court

The trial is set to take place in March 2025.

HOUMA, La. — The woman accused of killing her 2-year-old son in Houma is due back in court Thursday for a hearing to decide if she could face the death penalty if convicted.

Ezekiel Harry's body was found two years ago in a duffel bag inside a trash can. Ezekiel's mother, Maya Jones,  initially said her son was abducted, but later that day, both she and her boyfriend, Jermaine Robinson, were charged with murder.

An autopsy later revealed that Ezekiel had been beaten to death.

Jones and Robinson are facing first-degree murder charges.

A year after Ezekiel's death, state lawmakers passed Ezekiel’s Law, designed to reform how child abuse cases are handled in Louisiana.

The trial is set to take place in March 2025.
