ABITA SPRINGS, La. — The mother of a man who was arrested last week on drug counts has been arrested after the sheriff's office said she kept the illegal business going.
Monique Sagona, 48, was arrested Tuesday when deputies say they found out she was continuing to sell drugs inside the home with help from Tate while was in jail. Deputies obtained a search warrant at Sagona's home located in the 73000 block of Iron Street in the Hillcrest neighborhood of Abita Springs.
Last week her son, Allen Tate Jr., was arrested after Adderall, Xanax, cocaine, acid , and cough syrup, were allegedly found in bundles inside the home, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.
Information sent out Wednesday afternoon contained another laundry list of illegal and suspected nonprescription drugs that turned up in the search. These included over 300 grams of suspected magic mushrooms (psilocybin), over a pound of suspected marijuana, six grams of suspected heroin and almost a gram of suspected cocaine.
Deputies also listed acid, THC vapes, chocolate bars with suspected magic mushrooms (psilocybin), Adderall pills, Vyvanse, and an assortment of drug paraphernalia.
Sagona is booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. She faces multiple charges including Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana or Synthetic Cannabinoids, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Schedule II CDS and Attempt and Conspiracy regarding the distribution of illegal narcotics.
“This is not the kind of family business we want operating in our parish,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “The detectives with our Narcotics Division are dedicated to getting illegal drugs out of neighborhoods. They do not simply make arrests, they continue to work cases until they uncover and arrests all individuals involved.”
