Missing man found dead in Kenner canal, police investigate

Miranda was reported by his family as missing the day before. Officers are still investigating but do not suspect foul play.

KENNER, La. — Kenner Police say the body of missing 61-year-old Efrain Miranda was found by officers shortly after midnight. His body was found in a drainage canal that runs along the 3200 block of Northwestern Drive according to a Kenner PD report.

Miranda was reported missing by his family Saturday morning. Officers are still investigating but do not suspect foul play. 

The Kenner Police Department will release further information after their investigation which includes an autopsy.

"On August 24, 2024, at 6:30 AM, Kenner Police responded to a report of a missing sixty-one-year-old man. Efrain Miranda, 61, Kenner, was reported missing by a family member. Miranda was last seen at his residence in Kenner, in the University City subdivision, at 11:30 PM," said an initial Kenner PD report.

Police say Miranda is not known to have any mental health issues but suffers from a medical condition affecting his kidney.

At the time of his disappearance, Miranda was described as five-foot-tall, weighing approximately one hundred and twenty pounds, with long brown hair, last seen wearing a grey shirt and black pants.
