NEW ORLEANS — A man was arrested after he tried to run over a woman and a man with a stolen pickup truck in Mid-City Saturday, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Brian Anthony Clark, 30, was identified by NOPD, after authorities issued an arrest warrant on two counts of attempted murder, hit-and-run driving and illegal possession, among other crimes.
Officers said the woman and man are currently in the hospital.
NOPD first got a call about the attack on the 1900 block of Canal Street at around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
"Through investigation, investigators determined that Clark allegedly used the ... red 2023 Ford F-150 to run over victims intentionally," NOPD said on Saturday. "Clark then fled in the vehicle, which was reportedly stolen.
NOPD had reported Saturday morning that three people were hit by Clark, but later that day reduced the number of victims to two people. Although police added that, "a juvenile female was also on the scene and was not injured by the vehicle."
WWL Louisiana had been in touch with an eyewitness, who said he saw the truck hit three people near the Mid-City Automotive tow yard on Canal Street, with the witness adding that one of the three victims appeared to be a small child. The witness said the man who was hit appeared to be an employee.
NOPD also listed child desertion and simple criminal damage to property as charges against Clark.
At Mid-City Automotive on Saturday morning, WWL Louisiana Photographer Yasmeen Blake captured footage of the lot's fence torn off and lying on the ground. Inside the tow yard, NOPD huddled around a screen reviewing security footage from earlier that morning.
Officers at the scene and Mid-City Automotive employees declined to immediately comment on the attack.
The tow company had been the subject of a Mike Perlstein Investigation in February. Residents had complained that the busy commercial tow yard for wrecked cars was a round-the-clock noise issue and that the lot may have been violating city zoning laws.
One neighbor reported in January that a flat-bed tow truck from the lot had hit his car and drove off.
The neighborhood dispute has been under review by the City of New Orleans.
