NEW ORLEANS — A man was shot and killed on Canal Street Wednesday evening.
According to New Orleans police, the shooting took place in the 900 block of Canal Street at the edge of the French Quarter.
Police responded to an aggravated battery by shooting just after 4:50 p.m.
Upon arrival, the NOPD said they found a man with a gunshot injury at the location. He was transported to the hospital where he later died from the injuries.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim's identity and cause of death after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
NOPD's Homicide Unit is in charge of the investigation as they continue to gather evidence and information.
