Report: Man shot near I-610 was a Sewerage and Water Board worker

The driver had just exited the interstate when he was shot, according to police.

NEW ORLEANS — The driver shot multiple times after exiting I-610 last Friday, was a Sewerage and Water Board employee.

The Times-Picayune reports that the New Orleans utility company confirmed Monday that the unidentified victim is an employee.

"We appreciate NOPD’s diligence on this case," S&WB spokesperson Grace Birch told the newspaper.

New Orleans police say the man was shot near Franklin Avenue and westbound I-610.

Police received the report just before 6 a.m. Friday morning.

NOPD spokesperson Sgt. Juan D. Barnes told WWL-TV that preliminary reports show the victim’s vehicle had exited the Interstate and was on the ground level near Franklin Ave. when gunmen in a white Hyundai Sonata with no license plates opened fire on the man, striking him multiple times.

Police have not released any information on the man's condition or if any suspects have been identified.
