NEW ORLEANS — Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department made an arrest in the homicide investigation stemming from Sunday night’s shooting in the French Quarter.
The NOPD says they have arrested Reginald J. Batiste, 37, for fatally shooting a man at a crowded part of Bienville Street as people gathered in the French Quarter for Cinco De Mayo celebrations.
Police say responding officers found an unknown male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS declared the victim deceased on the scene. A subject seen fleeing the scene who detectives later identified as Batiste, was detained after a short foot pursuit for further questioning.
The NOPD says they believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the unidentified victim and Batiste.
Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Batiste on one count of second-degree murder. Batiste was subsequently arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
His bond was set at $1 million.
