1 killed, another injured in 2 separate shootings in New Orleans East, NOPD reports

Initial information from NOPD shows at least one victim sustained at least one gunshot wound to the body. The other victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

NEW ORLEANS — The NOPD is investigating an aggravated battery by shooting that happened in the 4300 block of America Street in the Plum Orchard neighborhood of New Orleans East. 

The NOPD reported the shooting at about 1:02 p.m. but did not say when the shooting took place.

Initial information from NOPD shows at least one victim sustained at least one gunshot wound to the body.

The victim was transported to the hospital by private conveyance.

No further information is currently available.

Later at about 2:00 p.m., the NOPD reported that they were investigating a separate fatal shooting in New Orleans East. 

Police say that the shooting happened in the 10800 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Officers said a man, later identified by the Orleans Parish coroner as Dessean Leggett, 23, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in front of the Chef Discount Market.

The Leggett was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.

Police have not publicly identified the victim or named any suspects.
