Man shot in Gert Town, arrested suspect escapes, later recaptured by NOPD

Initial reports show an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was brought to a local hospital by EMS.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating after a man was shot in Gert Town.

Investigators say the shooting happened at about 11:13 p.m. Saturday in the 7800 block of Earhart Blvd.

Initial reports show an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was brought to a local hospital by EMS. Police did not say what condition the victim was in. There is no further information available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Through investigation, officers identified Jerome Leblanc as the perpetrator in this incident and he was arrested on the scene. However, he was able to escape police custody.

Sunday, members of the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS), the Violent Crimes Abatement Investigation Team (VCAIT), and the U.S. Marshals apprehended Leblanc in the 1300 block of Lesseps Street in the Fifth District.

Leblanc is facing charges of aggravated battery, disturbing the peace, resisting an officer and escape.
