JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Deputies are continuing the search for a man they say shot and wounded an employee during a robbery outside a refrigerator store in Harvey Thursday.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office officials said the shooting happened around 7:20 a.m. in the 2200 block of Arlington Drive. An employee at Lemoine Marine Refrigeration reportedly heard something outside and went out to find his coworker being robbed at gunpoint by an unidentified man.
One victim attempted to run and was shot in the shoulder, although it wasn't immediately clear which employee that was. The suspect then took belongings from both men and ran from the store, then sped away from the scene.
On Sunday, the JPSO released a crime sketch of the suspect. Witnesses described him as a black man between 30 and 40 years old, about 6 feet tall with a slim build and black hair with some gray.
They also released a picture of the car the suspect used to flee the scene, a silver, early-2000s model BMW 3 series.
According to initial reports, as the fled the scene Thursday, the suspect also pointed his gun at three more victims who had heard the shot and came over to help, No one from that group was robbed or injured.
Deputies rushed to the scene and a manhunt for the suspect ensued. The victim who was shot was taken to the hospital and was stable. His injury was not life threatening, officials said.
A helicopter search team was in the area Thursday morning looking for the man, who was last seen speeding away in a vehicle toward Peters Road, NOLA.com reports. As of Monday, the suspect was still at large.
Lopinto said the incident was under investigation and the search would continue for the robber. He said it appeared the suspect was trying to rob the individual employee, not the store, but had no more details immediately available.
Anyone with information that could assist the JPSO in its investigation is encouraged to call 504-364-5300 or contact Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
