NEW ORLEANS — Police are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting that injured a 23-year-old man in the East late Saturday night, NOPD officials.

The victim in the incident told police that around 11:30 p.m. Saturday he was walking in the 14000 block of Duane Road, close to the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge in the Little Woods neighborhood, when he noticed a white SUV following him.

The man continued walking when passengers in the SUV shot at him multiple times, he told police. He was hit once in the left leg and twice in the right leg, NOPD officials said.

He was driven to the hospital for treatment, where his current condition is unlisted.

The shooting is under NOPD investigation. Police called it an aggravated battery by shooting. No additional information in the investigation was released as of Sunday night.

The shooting is one of several reported in New Orleans East in the past week. Last weekend alone, NOPD opened up four separate investigations into shooting in the area.
