Man found shot dead in Central City, NOPD searches for 6 persons of interest

Detectives began the investigation after an adult male was found lying unresponsive in the 3700 block of Washington Avenue Saturday afternoon.

NEW ORLEANS — UPDATE: The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim on Tuesday, Aug. 27, as 47-year-old Richard L. Milton, who died as a result from a gunshot wound.

The NOPD is investigating a homicide in Central City after a man was found shot dead in the street.

Detectives are searching for six persons of interest in the homicide investigation and need the public's help in locating them.

Detectives began the investigation after an adult male was found lying unresponsive in the 3700 block of Washington Avenue Saturday afternoon.

"NOPD Sixth District Officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location around 2:48 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unidentified, adult male victim lying unresponsive in a courtyard, suffering from at least one gunshot wound," said an initial NOPD report.

He was transported to the hospital by EMS where he died a short time later.

Homicide detectives are currently investigating to determine a motive and suspect or suspects responsible for this shooting.
