LAPLACE, La. — Deputies in St. John the Baptist Parish are investigating a late night shooting that left one man dead in LaPlace.
According to the sheriff's office, the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Cambridge subdivision. Deputies arriving at the scene found a man's body lying on the ground near the corner of Medford and Williamsburg drives.
The man had multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was pronounced dead by the St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner's Office. The sheriff's office says the man has been identified as 31-year-old Overton Tobias.
Hours later, deputies began investigating a separate shooting in Reserve, La. that left one woman dead. Detectives do not believe the two murders are related.
