SUPREME, La. — Two people are dead after an Assumption Parish man shot his nephew who was mowing grass before shooting himself, deputies say.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon said the pair of shootings happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Supreme, La., south of Napoleonville.
Deputies were dispatched to a home after a neighbor reported seeing 49-year-old Scott G. Cazenave shoot 29-year-old Beau Blanchard in the head while his nephew was on a lawnmower. Investigators say the two men were involved in a brief conversation before "for reasons undetermined" Cazenave walked off, got a gun and killed Blanchard.
Shortly after driving away from the scene, Cazenave's was involved in a vehicle crash on LA 1010. He then died at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
The investigation into both shootings continues.
