Man dead after shooting in Gentilly, NOPD reports

Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. NOPD investigating the incident as a homicide.

NEW ORLEANS — A man was shot and pronounced dead on Wednesday evening after suffering a gunshot wound in the 3400 block of Franklin Avenue.

NOPD responded to an alert at 5:54 p.m. and confirmed the shooting at 5:33 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Our partners at Nola.com reported that evidence markers were placed near a silver Toyota 4Runner, which was parked at a gas pump at a Shell gas station. The driver's door was ajar and the window was shattered.

The victim's identity and cause of death has not yet been released by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.

NOPD says the incident is now under investigation as a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
