METAIRIE, La. –Deputies arrested a man in connection with a shooting that left a woman injured Sunday.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Oaklawn Drive.
Wendell Garcia was arrested on counts of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated burglary.
Officials said a 29-year-old person was shot several times and taken to a nearby hospital. They added the victim is expected to live.
Authorities said the person was getting out of their car to visit a friend when they saw three people walking towards the home. When the person knocked on the door to warn friends, the three masked gunmen forced their way inside the door. That's when authorities said the victim ran, heard gunshots, and realized they had been shot.
Deputies said the suspects then held the victim's friend and two men at gunpoint and told them to empty their pockets. Officials said a knock at the door caused the gunmen to run out of the back door of the home.
Deputies said the suspects were wearing dark colored hoodies and a cloth mask over their faces.
