SLIDELL, La. — The Slidell Police Department arrested a man on Wednesday after he allegedly made threatening statements about going to Abney Elementary School with an AK-47 assault rifle and committing acts of violence.
Within minutes of the threats, the school was immediately placed on lockdown and just minutes later, Slidell Police arrested the suspect at his apartment. Utilizing a search warrant, officers conducted a search of the apartment but did not find any firearms on the premises.
The suspect, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant to appear in court, was charged with 'Terrorizing' which is considered a felony.
“The safety of our children will always be a top priority," Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said. "The quick actions and response by both Abney Elementary and the responding officers should be commended.”
Slidell PD said the name of the suspect is being withheld in order to protect the identity of a juvenile.
