NEW ORLEANS — A 36-year-old man is in custody in Orleans Parish after allegedly cutting a woman and a security guard attempting to come to her aid during an incident at a New Orleans hotel on Sunday night.
According to the NOPD, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. at a hotel located inside the first block of Poydras Street along the riverfront.
Witnesses told the police that the suspect, Joshua Smith, began acting strange while returning to their hotel with the first victim and several other coworkers.
The victim is said to have escorted the suspect to his room at which time an argument began and resulted in Smith allegedly cutting the victim twice on the arm and once on the neck.
The police said the victim fled to another floor for help with the suspect following her. A security guard allegedly intervened and was cut on the thumb during the process.
Smith was taken into custody, while the female victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
She was last reported in stable condition.
