Former LSP trooper arrested, accused of falsely reporting two DUI crashes

The investigation into 56-year-old Brett Dupre stemmed from two citizen complaints about two crashes he investigated last April.

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — The Louisiana State Police have arrested one of their own troopers who is accused of improperly reporting two separate crashes he was investigating.

The investigation into 56-year-old Brett Dupre stemmed from two citizen complaints about two crashes he investigated last April.

Dupre, who has been a trooper since 2008, is accused of intentionally filing crash reports that contained false information, and two suspected impaired drivers in the crashes were not taken into custody according to State Police.

LSP says they re-examined the crash incidents, amended the crash reports, and charged the impaired and at-fault drivers.

After consultation with the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office, LSP Investigators filed charges against Dupre who was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on two counts of Malfeasance in Office and one count of Filing False Public Records.

While being investigated, Dupre was placed on administrative leave but he later retired from the department in August 2023. State Police say the investigation into Dupre is still ongoing.
