Alleged meth dealer and accused accomplices arrested, Lafourche Parish Sheriff says

LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. — Four individuals were arrested in connection to a narcotics investigation by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office. The arrests come after the sheriff's office followed an alleged local meth dealer, Sheriff Craig Webre said.

Mitchell Folse, 45, Walter Nelson III, 42, and Chad Brunet, 43, all of Lockport were arrested, including Darby Smith Jr., 21, of Larose last week on Thursday, Jul. 11, after deputies obtained arrest and search warrants for Folse's home on Mar Drive.

Deputies searched the home and said several people were in the home, including Nelson, Smith, and Brunet. They said Nelson and Smith attempted to avoid arrest by leaving through a window, but were caught quickly.

During the search, deputies said they "located suspected methamphetamine".

All four were booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux.

Read their charges below:

  • Folse was booked on three counts of distribution of methamphetamine. He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a structure for narcotics use. His bail is set at $125,000.
  • Smith had several active warrants and was charged on four counts of violation of protective orders, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft of a firearm, theft, simple burglary, and contempt of court. He is also charged with resisting an officer and violation of probation, "he is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole." His bail is set at $55,000.
  • Nelson was booked on two warrants of contempt of court and also charged with resisting arrest. His bail is set at $50, 100.
  • Brunet was booked on a warrant for contempt of court. His bail is set at $25,000.

LPSO said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are possible.
