KENNER, La. — A traffic stop in Kenner has led to the arrest of a man wanted for serious crimes both locally and out of state. On Thursday, July 11, a traffic enforcement officer pulled over a vehicle in the 2900 block of West Esplanade for displaying a fraudulent license plate and registration, and for operating without a license.

The driver, Kilmar Ayala-Miranda, also known as Kilmar Wilfredo Mejia, of Tulane Drive, was found to have outstanding warrants. He is wanted in Kenner for domestic violence and in Indiana on a full extradition warrant for Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, a Class 5 Felony. Immigration authorities have been notified, and a detainer will be placed on Ayala-Miranda.

Chief Keith Conley emphasized that many of those using fraudulent plates are unlicensed and undocumented, often lacking liability insurance, which poses a significant threat to public safety. In response to the rising issue, Chief Conley has allocated three additional officers to the Traffic Division to enhance enforcement efforts. He praised the hard work of the Traffic, Patrol, and Investigations Divisions in ensuring the safety of Kenner's streets.
